Different Ways Elderly People Can Stay Healthy This Winter
Every winter it’s of vital importance that the elderly stay warm and healthy. The problem in the UK is that many elderly people choose to switch their heating off, or only turn it on for short periods, because of a fear of expensive heating bills.

Low pensions, coupled with rising fuel bills and a global recession mean that the elderly are often concerned about their outgoings, when they should be more concerned about their health.
There are some ways that the elderly can stay healthy this winter, some of which include:
• Wrap up in layers: The more layers you wear, the warmer you will be. Warmth is more about wearing many thin layers than it is about wearing one thick jumper, as body heat gets trapped in between the layers, keeping you warmer.
• Ensure you have care: Every elderly person should have someone to check on them a few times each week. This could be a relative, a friend or a neighbour. If you have an elderly relative make sure that you do your bit to care for the elderly relatives that you have and check on them regularly.
• Eat well: Food will help to keep you warm, so eating regular meals is a great way of staying warm and healthy. Make sure that you have a hot meal for dinner, and drink plenty of fluids throughout the day.
• Finally, regular visits to the doctor are a must to ensure that you stay healthy and any infections are caught early enough so that they don’t become serious.
• One of the advantages of being in a care home is that you do receive proper nursing care and don’t have to worry about keeping warm.
