Care Home or Nursing Home?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Family

Finding the right kind of care for an older person is not an easy task. You want to make sure that they go to a facility where their every need is taken care of. Upon doing your research, you’ve probably come across care homes as well nursing homes. Despite what most people think, these two types of long term care programmes are not the same.

Care homes are residential homes where the elderly get help with all their needs. Unlike a nursing home, it is more personal and smaller as opposed to a community of elder people. In nursing homes, the community is confined to a schedule because of the fact that there are so many people living in the premises. But in a care home, your loved one will be able to have a freer schedule and focus on their hobbies. This allows them to relax and not be stressed by the management of a nursing home.

In addition, your loved one will get everything they need from their meals, personal hygiene, counselling, medical treatments, and other assistance they might need. By choosing the right home, you can be sure that everything will be handled professionally and your loved one won’t be neglected.

You can decide to go with a care home with or without nursing care. If your loved has serious health conditions and need nursing assistance, then you can find a home with professional nurses that provide 24-hour services. If you feel that your loved one can do fine going to their personal doctor, then you can go with a care home that doesn’t offer nursing care.

Of course, many people will be apprehensive about sending their loved one to another home. They’ve heard a lot about neglect and abuse. However, by choosing the right home, your loved one will be treated with respect, get the privacy they need.

Top tips for the perfect Halloween party

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Decorating, Family

Halloween parties are a brilliant way to get everyone involved and to get everyone to dress up in Halloween costume. This kind of party can be one of the best parties you have ever given providing that you use your imagination and creativity.

If you are planning to have a Halloween party for all ages, then you first need to think about the venue. Think of somewhere unique and creative, such as a spooky cellar or a house designed to be haunted, or even a garden with a marquee, that is covered in spider’s webs and tombstones.

Now you need to think about your Halloween costume and also kids Halloween costumes. There are so many ideas to choose from, but try and think of something a little bit original, as you do not want everybody at the party to be wearing the same thing

Think about who are going to invite and design some invitations that will capture the imaginations of the guests you inviting. Give them an invitation that will inspire them into thinking about their Halloween costumes.

Decorate the venue accordingly to the theme, carved pumpkins and spiders webs and play music that is just that little bit creepy for when your guests start to arrive.

You also need to ensure that your catering fits in with the theme. Plenty of sweets and candy are just the ticket, and maybe get your food to look spooky but tantalising, such as edible eyeballs and spiders. Don’t forget the adults though; a blood red punch will go down a treat.

Visit wildlife attractions for free with Airmiles

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Days out, Family

You can use your Airmiles for a wide – and wild – variety of free days out. And that includes many free activities aimed at animal-loving kids and parents. They range from falconry and owl handling, to being a shepherd or a zoo keeper for the day. With so many free activities to choose from, you’ll never be stumped for an original birthday present again.

For the ultimate in free family days out, you can’t beat a visit to London Zoo. For just 250 miles (200 miles for children under 16, and free for under 3s) you can enjoy one of London’s premier attractions. Use your Airmiles to bag cheap hotel rooms too, and you’ve really got something to roar about. Alternatively, at Broxbourne Zoo in Hertfordshire youngsters of 14 years or more can enjoy the ultimate work placement experience, and become an assistant zoo keeper for the day.

One of the most unusual free days out is learning to be a falconer. For those fit enough to clamber over stiles, this and the Owl Handling experience are available to those aged 16 and over (14 for Owl Handling). Falconry is one of several free activities based around country pursuits. Remember “One Man and his Dog” with Phil Drabble? At Bingley, in Yorkshire, you get the chance to have a go yourself, learning how to work with sheepdogs before penning a flock of sheep yourself. One of the few outdoor activities with no weather restrictions – but at least you can dry off in the pub afterwards.

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Days out, Family

Whether we’re in a recession or not, taking the whole family out for a day is one of the most expensive things that parents can do. Whether you go to the cinema, to a theme park or just out around the shops and for a meal, when you have children you can easily spend over £100 on what should be a simple, inexpensive trip out.

Family tickets at theme parks, where the typical family unit of two adults and two children is expected, often cost in excess of £50 before you even begin to factor in travel costs, food and the all important expense on souvenirs. If only there was a way to enjoy free days out that the children would enjoy?

When you collect Airmiles, there is. By collecting Airmiles you can exchange your Airmiles for free activities, such as tickets to Alton Towers, Thorpe Park, or even more adventurous activities such as quad biking or paintballing.

Airmiles can be collected whenever you pay for something with a Lloyds TSB Airmiles Duo Credit Card Account, meaning that just by spending what you would normally spend on food and other essentials, you can achieve free days out with Airmiles.

You can also collect Airmiles by exchanging your Tesco Clubcard vouchers for Airmiles. You can get Tesco Clubcard points on things like paying for your gas and electricity with E.ON.

Theme park tickets can be very expensive for large families, but by collecting Airmiles you can turn this ‘would be’ expense into one of many free activities.

Free Children’s Activities and Days Out with Airmiles

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Days out, Family

No matter how hard we try, we can never stop our children from growing up; it’s a part of life. One of the things many children can’t wait to do is to drive a car, but they usually have to wait until they are 17 for that. However, when you collect Airmiles, they don’t have to wait that long at all, as you can use them to get free days out for your children on driving course activities.

Some of the free activities and days out available with Airmiles include a children’s rally driving experience and a ‘first drive’ experience, where children can drive a real car for the very first time. On the first drive experience, children get to drive a car, such as a new BMW Mini, on a special circuit (that is very safe, so don’t worry) under the watchful eye of a trained instructor. It’s one of the best free days out you could choose for your child, and they’ll thank you forever – especially when the experience stands them in good stead when they come to learn to drive.

Other free days out (yes, that’s free days out not cheap days out) for children include the rally driver experience, where children as young as 12 get to drive a real rally car on a rally circuit. Don’t worry, there’s a minimum height restriction so your child can reach the pedals. When you’re collecting and using Airmiles, free activities like this won’t cost you a penny.

If you’re not into driving activities, other free activities include paintball days out, a spy camp for amateur James Bonds and a make-up consultation day for children who prefer a bit of pampering.

Care Homes of the Future

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Bedroom, Competition, Decorating, Family, Home Improvement, International Property, Tips for Cleaning, Uncategorized

It’s a fact that people are living longer. Better health care, higher standards of living, healthier eating and a wider awareness of general health issues has meant that we’re an aging population. As such the scope for caring for the nation’s elderly, one that has been sufficient for decades, has to be widened. More care homes are being built and people are forced to work longer before retirement.

The residential care homes of the future will be bigger, will have more residents and will require more elderly nursing care than ever before. Places in care homes are also becoming scarcer, as competition for places becomes stronger.

One of the most difficult aspects of growing old is dealing with dementia and seeing a loved one deteriorate to a point where they’re not certain who you are from one day to the next. When someone suffers with dementia they need the best care and there are many dementia care homes in the UK that can offer this.

Choosing the right elderly nursing care for your loved one is an important decision and one that shouldn’t be taken lightly. Be sure to visit each care homes that you’re considering and inspect it thoroughly to make sure that you make the right choice of care homes.

Mamma Dia!

mamamia

Mother’s day is a tricky one. It’s not as personal as a birthday and not quite as festive as Christmas. For some (i.e. me) it doesn’t require a gift, as mum uses it as a test of my appreciation and love for her – simply remembering and planning a day with her is enough. However, I wanted to do something a bit different this year.

So I’ve decided that perhaps a gift was the way to go. So, for those of you who are in need of inspiration, here are some online resources for all types of mums – if you have any others feel free to add them in comments.

The beautician:

From skincare to gym gear, there are plenty of gift items to choose from for a mum who enjoys taking care of herself. Even if she doesn’t, gifts like this can boost mum’s confidence and make her dazzle in her natural beauty. We’ve recently discovered Avon’s Clinical expressional line filler and their facial filling serum – both ridiculously affordable and the perfect gift for mums worried about wrinkles. Browse the Avon Mother’s day boutique for any further inspiration.

The chef:

There’s a range of gift items available for cooking and baking, including a range of gimmicky items. Does your mum love to create her own dessert recipes? Convince her to start packaging and selling her own chocolates. Check out these gorgeous chocolate moulds, chocolate boxes and foil wrappers from the Cakes, Cookies and Crafts Shop. You can also try Cookware Online who stock cute kitchen utensils such as crumb vacuums shaped as animals, jam funnels, crème Brule kits and beautiful Jamie Oliver stainless steel cookware.

The fashionista:

There are plenty of shops with specialised mother’s day boutiques, so make sure you visit your favourite high street shops as well as their online stores for a range of special prices, gorgeous gift wrapping and easy home delivery. We love how Ted Baker has dedicated a webpage to women’s clothes and accessories and especially love this gorgeous snake skin purse and this antique inspired bow necklace.

The techie:

For business mums or mums addicted to Twitter (they’re out there, I promise you!) Wi-Fi mobile phones make a great gift. Nokia’s E75 comes equipped with an easy to use Qwerty keyboard and comes in a pretty red colour. Nokia’s online shop also lists great mobile contract deals with O2, Orange, Vodafone and T-Mobile – Browse the offical shop online for further inspiration.

Photography and digital art enthusiasts can also try a number of accessories – from graphic tablets to digital frames, there’s a range of digital photography products available online.

The worrier:

If you really want to treat a stressed out mum to something special this year, try a spa treatment. LastMinute.com will help you find a range of spa packages in your area. If you have the pennies (well, pounds… hundreds of them) to spare you could also treat your mum to a traditional Turkish spa with the renowned Likya Residence and Spa in Kalkan, South west Turkey.

The environmentalist:

A number of online and high street retailers have gone green – the concept: Any purchases you make can be transferred to points to buy even more. It’s a great way to get yourself more cautious of ethical spending and to show mum her present has gone to a worthy cause. Browse a list of eco-friendly retailers in partnership with Green Rewards and draw inspiration from their product offerings this Mother’s day.

The surprised:

We all know some one that love a good surprise. How about surprising your mum with a bedroom makeover? Learn more with the DIY decorating videos from BBC’s top interior designers. Try a modern twist on a monochrome black and white design, or bring spring to her bedside with a gorgeous and fresh floral design.

Or… you could simply get some flowers and a box of chocolates. Either way, I hope you found something worthwhile and inspiring in this list. Happy mother’s day to you all!
